Why do children need special education?

Asa Soho: Is there a question here of did you just decide to show your ignorance? It is clear that you do not have any information on why people get special education services. You haven't even read your own psychological report that describes the testing and any learning disability that was holding you back. Why do you think you can have an opinion based on nothing? Talk about lazy!Children get special education because they have either a learning disability that impacts their ability to make adequate progress in the general curriculum or a physical or mental disability that has the same impact. Many times kids don't need to be in special classes because they can keep up with some accommodations to the regular education curriculum. For instance, a child with visual motor integration deficit has great difficulty holding information in his brain long enough to get it on paper. So, the special ed resource teacher will provide the regular ed teacher with enlarged copies of t! he material or ask her to give the student a desk copy to use when she is teaching on the board or overhead. This student may also be allowed to use the computer for writing assignments because handwriting is slow and laborious, along with decreased copying of information from the board. So you individually have decided not to get services. That does not mean other kids should do the same. If you want to give up your accommodations, that is your choice. However, in reading your question, it is clear that you have difficulty researching a topic or keeping your thoughts organized. You are also making a logic mistake by using a single example to speak globally about an issue. You can do that, as you obviously did, but don't expect other people to believe you.I guess you really ticked me off because you sound both arrogant and ignorant at the same time. You are also very judgmental, even though you HAVEN'T GOT the foggiest notion of what you are talking about. If I were you, I w! ould at least read through your psychological report and find ! out why you were originally place in separate class. That means whatever was wrong was holding you back. The sad part is that you didn't even realize that the class was helping you....Show more

Basil Blasingame: Becuz They Have A Disability! And Also Cuz There Stupid!!! JK JK JK Lol :P

Sang Hanafin: The law requires that public schools provide free appropriate public education (FAPE) to all students regardless of their disability/type of disability/severity of disability. Unless you are a licensed professional, I doubt you have the credentials to determine whether 'most' people in your school's special education program need services or not. It is legally not for you to decide. And actually, an underage student cannot 'refuse' services. They can provide input at their IEP meeting along with the teachers. staff and administrators. The adults can use this and the progress to decide what the child then obtains. But the underage child cannot legally sign themselves! out of the program unilaterally just because they don't like going....Show more
