Raven Purl: Depends what part in Japan - Tokyo?
Carlee Tangaro: I lived and worked in Japan for three years. Here is what I can tell you. First, Japan is a cash society, that mean Credit cards are not used by about 65% of the businesses. Also, If the business do take credit cards, a lot of ATM and store do not take N. American Card. Also in most place in Japan it is Yen only, so don't bring dollars. As for getting cash, go the the Post Office, the ATMs are in English and they take N. American ATM and credit cards. As for your question, I would say about 300 dollar or 30,000 Yen a day. Also get a JR pass for the Trains or if you are just staying in Tokyo a subway pass. The passes will save you a lot in day to day cost. As for overall cost,Food ranges from $7 to $80 depanding on what you want.Marriott, $200 to $400 a day depending on the roomSubway 2 to 4 dollars each way depending on the distanceRound trip about 5 to $10 dollars.Cabs are about $30 to $200Recre! ation about $10 to $90 (Museums are free or cheap, sporting event and shows are expensive)If you have any question place feel free to e-mail me....Show more
Russell Mckinzie: Well, there's only one Marriott in Tokyo so that limits your choices a bit. It's roughly $116 US a night which is pretty cheap by Tokyo standards as most hotels will run you at least $250 a night. Others like the famous Park Hyatt is closer to $500. One hotel chain that is reasonable, but the room is the size of a closet, is "Hotel Villa Fontaine". On my first trip to Japan I stayed there and the room was less than $100 a night. Also there was a free continental breakfast every day.Food, depending on where you go and whether the hotel provides you with breakfast can run you anywhere between $25 and $60 a day. This is of course taking things like alcohol, snacks and other things into account. If you're into sushi you need to go to Tsukiji which is the fish market. You'll get the freshest and best ! sushi you've ever had in your life. Recreation, I would assume! sightseeing and shopping would be included in this term. Count on spending anywhere between $200 and $700 for the week depending on where you go, what you see and what you buy.Transportation. First rule of thumb is don't use a cab unless somebody else is paying. Cabs here are very expensive but after midnight they're the only things available to you as the buses and trains stop. This means either an early night in, or you stay up until the morning when they start running again. Your best way of getting around is using the trains and subways. Tokyo's transit system is very efficient and it can take you just about anywhere. Count on paying about $10 a day if you're not planning on going too far.Of course these are just rough estimates....Show more
Loise Mausser: Wow, this all depends on where you're staying in Tokyo. If it's downtown, bring LOTS of money. Rooms probably start around $400/night. Since you're a tourist, you will probably end up spending $75 a day whic! h consists mainly of food, transportation, etc. I know because I used to live in Tokyo and my friends from the States would come visit me.
