differnt types of wood on aircraft?

Jacques Teri: The De Havilland Mosquito used in WWII was constructed out of Plywood (Spruce and Balsa). It was nicknamed the 'Timber Terror' and had a fierce reputation among the Germans. Of 600 bombing raids, only 1 was shot down. This inspired the Germans to build a wooden built fighter to counter it, but with little success. The Focke Wulf TA154 was made of plywood, but production ceased when the only factory manufacturing the bonding agent (Tego Film) was bombed out. Modern kitplanes available for home construction often use wood, most often Sitka Spruce and Douglas Fir, which offer great strength to weight ratios. Mahalia Brindle: you must be talking about old school, wil & orval type planes, but i believe its commonly sitka-spruce wood.

Dexter Dicostanzo: In modern aircraft, wood is not used. In old aircraft, several types were used. Ash and spruce were co! mmon.
