Can I sell my car even though I lost my bill of sale?

Ninfa Aronica: That is correct, the bill of sale you received was proof that you purchased the car. When the next person buys it they will need a bill of sale for their proof of purchase. Now if you were to lose the title you would have to visit the DOT in order to get a new title before you can sell the car.

Donte Hamme: if you lost the bill of sale and do not have title then how are you going to get the car in your name to sell it to someone else plus how did you get legal tags for the car without the title or bill of sale go to the d.m.v. and see if you can get a replacement title

Frederic Engellant: When I bought my car off the previous owner I don't remember having the title of the car. I just remember the Bill of Sale. So you have to transfer the title of the car as well when you sell it or will a bill of sale suffice?

Lino Cawthorne: yes u can but u may have to get proof of ownership for the sale its usually in the ownership papers like insuranc! e for the car

Lucrecia Laurito: To sell a car, you MUST have the title first. If you don't have legal title, you CANNOT sell it, even to a junk yard.

Krystal Cordovano: YES YOU CAN SELL YOUR CAR A BILL OF SALE IS JUST A FANCY NAME FOR A RECEIPT. WHEN YOU SELL IT JUST FILL OUT THE BACK OF THE REGO PAPERS AND WRITE A NEW RECEIPT AND THATS IT IF THE BUYER WANTS A ROAD WORTHY CERTIFICATE / PINK SLIP OR BLUE SLIP IF THE CAR AS BEEN OUT OF REGO FOR MORE THEN 3 MONTHS TELL THEM YOU WILL GET ONE BUT AT THERE EXPENSE . IF THE CAR IS UNDER FINANCE OR ENCUMBERED TO BANK YOU HAVE TO PAY OUT THE LOAN WITH THE MONEY YOU GET AND YOU KEEP WHAT IS LEFT...Show more
