Can I take my name off car registration and leave it only in my dads while there is still a loan?

Elissa Curlin: No. The name on the registration must match the name on the title, which must match the name on the insurance and the loan. You can't get off the hook for this car, until after the car is paid off. You cannot transfer a title, without having it physically in your hands. Sunshine Holets: It depends on the lender. Since they approve your dad as a co-signer, they might agree to keep just his name on the title. Again you can always go to the lender and ask them how they want to do it. Usually they will just take your name off the title and give you a document to take to the DMV to change the title. Or they may require to check your dad's credit and income and do a new loan with h! im. If they want to do a new loan, then how much your car is worth will come into effect.So the best thing is to talk with the lender.
